Mobile Home Axle Conversion - Pirate 4x4
The tires discussed below have “Trailer Service” on the sidewall. I cut the welded 12x2 MH brakes off, and welded on flanges to use standard Dexter 12x2 bolt on backing plates for ease of service.

The Truth about mobile home axles...... - Pirate 4x4
Bella, someone mentioned earlier that you can purchase regular 5 or 6 lug hubs for these mobile home axles spindles. If that is true then you could then get the cheapie wagon wheel spoke rims in standard sixteen/fifteen/fourteen sizes and then get the standard trailer tires. In all your research did you come across this to be a true statement? I have a perfectly good set of tandem mobile home ...

so called "mobile home" axles or "dayton" style axles- advice?
Tires last forever but I use the heavy haul tires, not mobile home tires. Our heavy pipe/iron trailer had HD mobile home axles on it for years with great service.

Maxxis M8008 or Carlisle Trail HD - Pirate 4x4
Trailer tires almost always wear out due to sun damage, not mileage. I have not seen any truck tires with similar weight ratings. They are all 400-500 lbs less than the trailer tires. Granted my trailer only weighs about 11k for local camping (~9500 of that on the tires) and 14k for desert trips (~12k on axles). The Maxxis is rated at 3420lbs/tire (13680lbs), Carlise at 3520lbs/tire (14080lbs ...

single 17.5s vs dual 16 - Pirate 4x4
Tires are 245/70-17.5's. I know they get drug all over job sites and what not, so I assume they don't have to many issues with sinking. A recent survay of over 1000 trailer parks in the southeast found the 350 chevy out numbered the mullet by nearly 4:1, draw your own conclusion.

what TRAILER tires are you guys with heavy loads running?
I'm also curious. I bought 14k GVWR equipment trailer and it has E rated truck tires on it (that's what it came with). In addtion to what size you guys are running, those with heavy duty trailers and 16" wheels, what SIZE are your tires?

Dayton Wheel conversion... advice wanted - Pirate 4x4
With current tires looks like I have 1 to 1.5 inches of clearance with trailer empty. Below is a pic of the trailer (I added the removable sides for firewood) Advice appreciated! If I stay with 14.5" tires and rims, would these parts fit together well (assuming the hubs will work on the axles): Buy 4 14.5" 6 lug steel wheels (not easy to find):

Downside to 17.5’s on trailer - Pirate 4x4
I’m building a multi use trailer to haul my 4 runner and firewood. It’s going to be 18 ft with twin 7,000lb axles. My original plan was to run 235 85 16 truck tires since trailer tires suck. Then I started looking at 215 75 17.5’s and 235 75 17.5’s. I know the 17.5’s are way overkill for the...

towing with 73-87 chevy's - Pirate 4x4
The least it pulled was a loaded car trailer, sometimes pulled a 35k pound tri-ax dually gooseneck. The rear spring pack was a stock one with basicly another entire spring pack - a few leaves with an overload setup and trussed 14 bolt.
